Notes
While at the district head quarters, Alex had a very good meeting first with DCDO of Namutumba district called Mr. Hadad to talk to him about the activities taking place in Buyange village. He had requested for a more detailed explanation about how kibo group implements the goats in the community and what could be the goal. Alex told him that giving goats comes at last after preparing the village through the lessons of a community working together through planting trees and doing other activities that unite them. A goat is given to a household to act as a start up to uplift their livelihood. We hope that when a goat is taken good care of, it can multiply and be exchanged for a cow that give milk to a family or sale of some goats to be able to pay school fees for a child in school. The DCDO was very interested in this goats activity and promised to attend in person the next goats issuance activity to take place in Buyange village. Thereafter Alex met with the environmental officer Mr. David, DFO Mr William and the district forest ranger Mr. Robert to discuss about tree planting in kibo villages and when the district will be ready to provide some trees to these villages. These officers assured Alex that the trees would be ready for pick up around mid April and will provide with two kinds of trees, Musizi and giant lira trees. The district officials also wanted kibo group to involve them so much in the activities being done to Abe able to capture all that is done in the district work plan. During the next district coordination meetings scheduled for next month, Kibo group need part of this to be able to capture all that kibo intends to support with Namutumba district. The Chief administrative Officer will send out invitations to all development partners in the district to attend this crucial meeting and kibo group is one of those very active in the district and shouldn’t miss out. Alex has of recent been very engaged with district to lobby for more trees from the district environment office and DFO and seek more cooperation between Kibo group and the government to tackle the challenge of climate change. The district forest office promised to organize more meetings involving all environmental actors to discuss how to engage people to embrace tree planing. Alex once again spent more of the time at the district but he was able to briefly meet with the village leaders in Buluvu to continue talking about the need for them to take the lead in this program. They were told that kibo doesn’t have enough trees for everyone but as leaders they have to encourage all people in the community to embrace tree planting. People should plant any kind tree so that it can be able to grow without any excuse.
