Suzan went to the upper section of the village to teach the community members how to remove the banana stems from the previously built fuel efficient stove. When she arrived there, she found the participants gathered at the meeting place near the mosque and together they walked to the home where the stove was built.
Kibo staff entered the kitchen and began taking out the old banana stems using a shovel, this helped to push out the banana stems easily because they had dried up and stuck in the stove. Two active members assisted Kibo staff to take out the banana stems as she guided them through out the process.
She also kept on explaining to the community each step and why it is always important to smear their stoves at least once or after two weeks. Smearing helps the stove last longer and to avoid cracking all over. Later after, Suzan encouraged all the participants to continue working together as a team for an effective development.
They walked back together and on the way, Suzan observed that most homes (kitchens ) had the three stones open flames with children cooking on them. She requested the community members to continue improving on all their facilities by smearing all their buildings and repairing their kitchens.

After taking out the old stems from the stove, it’s also smeared to seal off all the cracks which may destroy it if left unsmeared.
