Notes
Harriet and Jeska were in Busene village to teach participants how to build stoves. This would be the first stove to be built in this village/ demonstration stoves. The kibo staff fist inspected the quality and quantity of grass that was so far chopped in relationship to the previous assignment that Kibo had left them with. Interestingly the community had chopped four bags of grass instead of one bag of grass that kibo had tasked them to chop before the first stove . This was excellent and showed that the community is very interested in the program and works together as a team. The community identified the first participant to get a stove , she qualified because she had all the home facilities well smeared and always reported early to the meeting. Kibo staff worked with the community to collect the termite dirt, mixed it with grass at a ratio of 2:1. Sprinkled water on the mixture, stamped it until it got ready. During the stamping of the dirt exercise the community also joined which was encouraging. Also there are some men who were active in the stamping of the dirt meaning that they understood that the stoves don’t only benefit the women but the entire family. Bananas stems were measured and kibo staff built a stove as they explained the whole process to the participants. The owner of the stove( Nabirye ) was very excited and was eager to know when the banana stems will be removed and how long she has to wait before she starts cooking on her stove. Kibo staff told her that the banana stems will be removed in a period between one to two weeks , then wait for more three weeks to dry properly before she starts cooking on it. The community thanked kibo for the Healthy and safe kitchen program and promised to continue participating.
