Notes
Maria visited Nawampiti village to teach about personal hygiene and oral care. The discussion started by defining personal hygiene, Sarah defined it as keeping our body clean, Maria added and said that it is the care we offer to our bodies in general. Members together with Maria discussed the ways of improving personal hygiene; Brush twice a day before and after food, trim the fingernails and toe nails regularly, wash your hands etc. Maria said that when washing hands one should use running water and soap for at least 2 minutes. Signs and symptoms of dental problems were also shared; pain in the tooth, bad odor in the mouth, the teeth will change the color from white to brown. Maria went ahead and demonstrated the best way to brush and floss, discussed the things members use to while brushing; charcoal, soap, salt, toothpaste, sand , ash etc. Maria encouraged discouraged members from using soap and sand because soap contains a detergent which is harmful to the gums, and sand may damage some organs in the body. The other things like charcoal, salt toothpaste and other are ok to be used. Members were advised to keep their bodies clean, clean all the clothes, keep the environment clean. Maria thanked the men for being so active in this program and encouraged them to put everything into practice for a better health.
