Notes
Harriet and Suzan were in Kalalu village to continue with the home to home visit to mobilize the participants for the healthy and safe kitchens program. This was intended to create relationships between kibo staff and the community and also to give the community first hand invitation. Kibo staff teamed up with four community leaders who volunteered to walk with them through the village. They focused on the lower section of the village and walked through over 40 homes. Most homes they found adults whom they envied for the next meeting for the healthy and safe kitchen program scheduled for 6/4/2022. The participants showed interest in the program and promised to attend the meeting. Also in some homes they found children whom they asked to tell their parents to come for the healthy and safe kitchens meeting / lessons slated for 6/4/2022. During the home visits some men thought that the healthy and safe kitchens program is for only women but kibo staff clarified that by telling them that the program is for both men and women and asked them to come to the meetings to learn more about the program. It was also observed that most women cooked on traditional three stones open flames that produced a lot of smoke and exposed their children to risks of getting burnt. It also gave kibo staff an opportunity to identify the day to day life of the participants and will build on that in the next meeting.
