Notes
The hand washing activity conducted by Alex W under WASH program two weeks ago hasn’t been well taken up so far by the village residents. Only 7 hand washing stands have been so far constructed in the village with excuses that people are very poor lately and many homes aren’t in position to buy cement and other materials to construct these stands. Many homes are struggling to even buy what to eat in their homes because of the bad season last year. The village leaders haven’t also stepped up their efforts to promote hand washing and were criticized very much by Alex. The village chairman Mr. Utah and the committee led by Livingston were encouraged to step up and help their village complete this sanitation cycle by encouraging all households to practice hand washing and constructing of these stands. Together with the committee they moved in about 24 homes encouraging people to construct these stands. The water and sanitation committee have agreed to be at the well and give priority to only those that have completed constructing these stands in a pursuit to promote hand washing in the village. Alex also met with the leaders of the Mvule program and encouraged them once again to meet all the members that received goats from Kibo and reschedule the date to have their goats checked and treated by the committee. This is because the community failed to conduct this activity as was earlier planned on 23/03/2022. WASH will continue to go back and continue follow up on construction of hand washing stands and promote hand washing in the village.
Next Visit
2022-04-06 - Purpose: Follow up on construction of hand washing stands and promote hand washing in the village with the village leaders.
Program Success
Program Critical Needs
The village leaders are not responsible enough and not doing enough to promote hand washing in the village.
Program Ownership
A few of the people have managed to construct hand washing in their homes and the water user committee has embarked on a responsibility to give first priority to those who have completed constructing hand washing stands in their homes to pump water at the borehole first.
Other Program Observations
The MCD program committee leaders have been very weak to ensure all the goats that were given to them by kibo last year are checked and treated by the veterinary doctor.
Program Expected Of Village
The village leaders need to step up their efforts to promote construction of hand washing stands in the village
Program Staff Preparations Next Visit
To call the community leaders and follow up on the activity of hand washing and ensure that the village is responding positively
