Notes
Diana went to Igerera B Lower Section,to teach the lesson of Chores and responsibilities in children. Diana found the community in their gardens. She went to the gardens and joined them. She thanked them for their hard work. They hurried up with their work as they happily left the gardens to prepare for the lessons. Although the lesson started late, but it was worth it. The chairman Mr. Kamya opened with a word of prayer and gave his remarks. He told the community to diligently attend the community empowerment lessons. Because the lessons have started showing beautiful fruits in their community. The community clapped their hands in appreciation of community empowerment lessons in their community. The chairman told them that in his meeting with other council leaders, he was handling a case of the father in-law who un dressed before his daughter in-law, because she refused him to cut the trees and to sell some part of the land meant for his grandchildren. She told him that it is part of the land that the children will inherit from him. That’s what prompted the man to get annoyed and undress his clothes before the daughter in law. In African culture, this is a taboo, the father has to pay a goat to the daughter in law. This is termed as cleansing to remove the curse from befalling the father in-law. The community was shocked at this story. It really puzzled them. The chairman told them to keep attending the community empowerment lessons, because if the father in-law had attended the lessons, which Diana taught about parents who dress/ undress before their children. This wouldn’t have happened. He told them that this falls under the lesson of love in the family. The chairman said that he kept begging the man to attend the community empowerment lessons, but he refused, and now see the embarrassment he caused to himself. Sumaya said that let that man pay the goat, because he behaved like a mad man. Hadijja laughed aloud. Diana intervened and told them that they should not laugh at the man, but instead encourage him to attend the lessons. Because everyone has his or her weakness. Robert responded that ‘what madam Diana is saying, is true’. The community should stop pointing fingers, because the man worked for his property. The daughter in law did not come with anything. Sarah responded, ‘but she also produced children for them’. So father in-law should have respected that. The discussion went on. Diana saw that time was running out, and she introduced the lesson of the day which was chores and responsibilities in children. She asked them what they understand by chores and responsibilities in children. Hajara, said that these are obligations given to children when they are growing up, Namukose, added on that it is the kind of jobs given to the children in the family. Diana thanked them for their good ideas . She told them since it is already late and they need to go and prepare for their families, it is better to end there. Diana thanked them for their time, and told them to keep time in the next visit so that they can continue with the lesson. She told them that she will continue with the lesson in the next visit. Mr. Kamya thanked them for honoring the community empowerment lessons and also encouraged them to keep time so that they cover the lesson of the day. He told them that in the next visit, everyone should come with a friend. He thanked Diana for being patient with them and teaching them the lessons that are bringing peace to their community.
