Notes
Harriet was in Kamudoke village ( lower section)to follow up on stove building progress, firewood storages and stove usage. This was surprise visit to walk home to home and intended to see how the program is progressing. Interestingly she found when the community has continued to build stoves on their own from the time kibo last visited them. Also most participants with dry stoves had started cooking on them on daily basis though others had the traditional three stones fire along side the fuel efficient stove which would tempt the children to cook on them thus exposing them to fire accidents. Harriet reminded them about the dangers of cooking on open flames and advised them to take out the three stones out of the kitchen. It was also reported that some members who lacked kitchens have started constructing them in order to get stoves. Some people had firewood storage stands well stocked them with firewood while other had constructed using weak poles that could lot support a lot of firewood and Harriet advised them to use strong poles to avoid firewood falling on people in the kitchen that may cause accidents. Also some people who lacked firewood storage stand were encouraged to construct them and stock them with firewood that can be used during scarcity. Some members testified that the stoves help them to cook food faster, save firewood, eliminates smoke and makes the kitchens look neat neat because it uses less firewood thus little ash is produced. They added that this has attracted more people to join because they have seen how the stove works.
