Notes
Maria went to Nawampiti to teach about menstrual hygiene and skin infection. Mara together with the members identified proper menstrual hygiene, irregularities in their periods, share what most women use during their periods. Angela said most women in the village use pieces of old clothes while a few use disposable sanitary pads. To those who use clothes, the health educator advised or encouraged members to wash with soap, put under the sun, and iron to prevent them from acquiring infections. Maria advised women to bath as often as possible when in this period. Poor menstrual hygiene causes a number of infections which may cause rashes, bad odor, among others; Maria said. The health educator asked the men who were present to support their wives during this period by providing soap, creating time for them to clean their bodies, and buying sanitary pads. Still more, the causes of skin infections, signs and symptoms, prevention and treatment were discussed. Maria defined skin infection as an infection that can be caused by either a bacteria, fungus, or virus. Members gave several types of skin infections; Ring worm, athletes foot, pimples among others. Most of the skin infections are air born, the signs and symptoms of skin infections, how to prevent and treat these diseases were discussed by both the health educator and the members. The health educator advised members to do personal hygiene as this helps in preventing most skin diseases. The meeting ended with a word of prayer from Ruth.
