Suzan and Jessica went to the village to continue teaching the community members how to build the fuel efficient stoves because most of them had not learnt how to build the stoves very well yet there were also new members joining the group.
When they reached the village, they found all the members at Mbeiza’s home where the first stove was going to be constructed because the group chairperson informed Kibo staff how they had planned to build two stoves that day. All the materials were gathered outside the kitchen compound and water filled in jerrycans and large saucepans.
Kibo staff together with some active participants began taking measurements of the dirt and grass while others were watching aside. After spreading the dirt and pouring water all over it, they came together and stamped it until it got ready. It was moulded into small balls and carried into the kitchen whereby Kibo staff asked the members to stand aside since the kitchen was big enough and watch as they build the stove.
Some active men began building the stove with Kibo staff members because its much easier to learn faster through participation. After building the first stove, three women participants were left in the kitchen to smoothen the stove using the small pieces of banana stems as the rest went to the next home to build a second stove.
The materials were all in place and the team worked together again with Kibo staff members, they participated in mixing and stamping the dirt and managed to build a second stove in Veronica’s kitchen.
The members were so grateful for the lessons taught that day and promised to continue working together as a team. Kibo staff encouraged all the participants to continue improving on all their facilities by smearing all their buildings and repairing their kitchen roofs.
They also requested the members to continue mobilizing new people to join the healthy and safe kitchens program because it was intended for all the community in the village to get empowered. Kibo staff thanked everyone for attending the lessons and wished them a happy stay with their families
