Notes
While on the way to Bupaluka Alex first made a quick visit to Nabituluntu to meet with the community leaders and talked to them about the quarterly meetings with the veterinary doctor to conduct a goats clinic to treat all the goats in the village . This follows a successful first clinic that was conducted and all the goats that were treated have had less sicknesses and have not lost any goat since then. Also these leaders were encouraged to continue being proactive and engage their village residents into other village economic activities. In Bupaluka, the hand washing program has already created impact in the village with many people testifying how their kids are able to wash their hands after visiting the pit latrine. Forty households have completed constructing these stands in their homes and while moving around the village Alex observed people and kids washing their hands after using the pit latrine. Mrs. Moses was one example that testified good about this new stand that has been embraced by all her family members and her kids are able to wash their hands after visiting the latrine. Alex with the leaders met to discuss ways to ensure that all households in the village are able to construct these stands in their homes and be able to was their hands. There is a bit of a challenge in the village with some people unable to buy the materials like cement since at this time there is scarcity for food and many families have to just buy what to feed their families. Alex however encouraged the leaders to continue engaging all the people to sacrifice and have these hand washing stands in all the homes. Never the less, this new idea from kibo is being highly embraced in the village. WASH will continue to follow up on this activity in Bupaluka to ensure all households construct these stands and are able to wash their hands in their homes at all the critical times like after visiting the pit latrine.
