Notes
Ida went to Ndalike to teach about raising chickens (coop building) This was done theoretically. Ida welcomed the members and thanked them for keeping time and immediately took them in a quick recap. Ida asked the community members what they understood by “ poultry keeping, it’s importance and the hatch stages which they answered well. She reminded Community members the goal of keeping chickens which is to improve on food and family income as a solution for poverty and reduction of un- employment. She also discussed the importance of having coops when keeping poultry : Safety, coops protect chics and chickens from wild animals, birds and all sorts of things that can kill or eat them before the time for selling them comes Kisame Fred gave another reason that coops protect chics from rains that kill them when found outside. Income generating. A person who learns how to build the coops gets an opportunity to build for others getting some money. Eg Isabirye from Nabikenge community now helps the neighboring community ( Bukudhumira) to build coops whereby he’s paid! The community decided to demonstrate the chicken coops in four homes where all practical lessons will be conducted. These four men will be helping the rest who will need their help. Those who haven’t been attending will pay a small amount as agreed upon. Tatya encouraged members each one to bring a pole, local strings( banana fibers) or nails if possible and papyrus mats or elephant grass for chicken coop practicals next time.
