Notes

Lorna went to Mpumiro village where she was to teach on Abstainence. This followed up from the previous lesson, where we had a skit/ role play on the dangers of early marriages. On the way to the village , Tiffu called Lorna to ask whether she was already on the way to the village and she said yes. Tiffu did not mention anything else to he but said it was okay. On reaching the village however, there was a funeral and Lorna could see women all veiled up going to the funeral. When Lorna asked Tiffu what was happening he mentioned that when he called he wanted to find out whether I had left Jinja or not yet so that he would stop me from coming . He added that the lady who passed her body was just brought to the community at about 11 and being a Muslim they were to bury immediately. It’s true the community was quiet and one could see only kids in the homes. Lorna suggested to visit some homes to evaluate the lesson but Tiffu and Tumuhaise mentioned there will be no one. Lorna decided to meet those on the committee who were around where, Lorna asked them to remind her of the previous lesson and what they learnt from the lesson. The lesson was on early marriages. Tumuhaise mentioned that she learnt that education is important to prevent early marriages. She mentioned she got married while young and because they got pregnant early she Aborted her first child because they did not know what to do. Hajjat mentioned that the best thing is to keep children in school and also counsel them. Ayub mentioned parents need to be more loving that tough because they push their children away into such traps. We also looked at some ways to Help our children abstain like; keep them busy with games, work at home, know their value , instill spiritual values, keep good company among others. Lorna thanked them for their time and asked them to mobilize for the next meeting. The lady that passed was a sickler died at 50 years.
