Notes
Suzan went to the village to follow up on the smearing of the buildings and to teach the community the importance of constructing the firewood storages. She carried out this activity through a home to home visit in company of some committee group leaders. This enabled them to find out whether each participant had improved on their home facilities or not. Together they agreed to first visit the first section of the village which was located at the center since many of the participants lived there. During the process, Suzan observed that some members had greatly improved on their buildings by smearing them most especially the kitchens and had constructed good firewood stands which were already stocked enough firewood. This was very impressive to see and interestingly, one of the female participants explained why she always stocked enough firewood on her stand. It was because she found it hard to search for firewood during rain seasons yet firewood was also scarce. Kibo staff kept on encouraging the members she visited to construct stronger firewood storages which can hold up enough firewood as well as lasting longer. This was because other members had very poorly constructed firewood stands which could easily cause accidents in the kitchens. Other kitchens needed to be well roofed because they had big openings at the top whereby when it rains, the water goes through which can damage the stove. She requested the men whom she found at home to see that they assisted their wives to construct good kitchen roofs and the firewood stands. Together they managed to visit fifteen homes that day and out of the 15 homes, only six homes had constructed good firewood stands and improved on all their facilities. The community members thanked Kibo staff for the visit and advice given to them, promising to improve on all their facilities as soon as possible.
