Notes
Harriet went to kalalu village to guide participants to form policies that will govern the healthy and safe kitchen. The lesson was community centered because the community was required to identify challenges that may affect the healthy and safe kitchen program implementation and identify the possible solutions to overcome them. The participants sighted challenges like absenteeism. One of the participants called Edith said that if some one who has not yet got a stove, absents him/ her self for three consecutive meetings with our clear reasons should be chased away from the group, for a participants who absents him/ herself more than three times after getting a stove, the stove should be dismantled so that they all loose as a group. All the participants in the meeting supported the idea. The chairperson for the healthy and safe kitchen program Ms Niagaga Ida advised the participants that in case of any challenges they should communicate through the leaders they selected to coordinate the program to avoid being charged. Namukuve sighted a challenge of absenteeism which may promote a sense of laziness, being slow in the program especially during the practical lessons. She suggested that in case it happens the culprit should be fined with collecting all the dirt that will be used to build a stove for the next participant. The community agreed that the meeting time should always be 12: 00pm and the community mobilizes the community only when there is change of the program. The community also agreed to maintain discipline and respect for one another for the program to be successful. Harriet also taught the participants the materials required for building stoves like grass, termite dirt, water, banana stems, basins, a shovel, hoes and active participation. The community said that all the materials mentioned are freely available in the community. Harriet gave them an assignment to search for grass and bring it to the next meeting so that she can teach them how to chop it.
