Notes
Diana went to Bulyowa A, to demonstrate to the community how to build the chicken coop. Diana got when the community had not yet gathered, because most of the community members where in the gardens since there was a heavy downpour the previous night. Diana tried to mobilize a few members around the community, but still few members turned up. Mpata and Wako kept apologizing to Diana for the low turn up but promised that they will do their best to improve the number. Diana thanked the community members for coming. This shows how they truly love the community empowerment lessons. Diana told them not to mind so much. Because rain is a natural happening, no one has control over rain, and also it eases the garden work making many people busy, since growing food is their source of living. Therefore there is no point to worry, everyone needs to get food. Since the community had already delayed to come for the lessons, Diana went straight to the lesson of the day which was the demonstration of the chicken coop building. Diana told the community instead of complaining that they don’t have bricks, it is better to improvise, for example they can get the strong sticks, banana fibres or ropes, grass to act as the rooftops. The community listened attentively as Diana explained the whole processes. Diana requested Mpata and his wife to get some of the materials since the community had not come with them, she then told some men to come and work with her in the demonstration of the chicken coop. The community saw how easy and fast a chicken coop can be built. They agreed to follow Diana’s idea. Diana also encouraged them to make a stronger chicken coop which is made out of bricks or mud. The whole process went on well as the community enjoyed the whole session of the chicken coop demonstration. Since it was already late, Diana ended there, and promised to continue with the chicken coop building in the next visit. Wako was really impressed and offered to help those interested in the chicken coop building free of charge with a condition of preparing for him chicken. The whole community burst out laughing at Wako. He insisted that he was serious. Mpata also thanked Diana for her time and the community also for coming despite their being busy in the gardens. He told them to keep time in the next lesson.
