Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan and Jessica went to the village to follow up on the kitchen safety and food handling methods. This was mostly going to be carried out in the kitchens of the program participants. When they arrived in the village, they were welcomed by the group leaders who were already at the meeting place. Before walking around the homes, Kibo staff briefly discussed with the leaders about the current status in the village. The group chairperson informed Kibo staff how most of the participants have improved in their general sanitation and hygiene around their homes and maintained all the program facilities. He also said that the members were cooking on their new improved stoves on a daily basis except for those who were waiting for their stoves to dry up. This was good news to listen to and later, Kibo staff requested the members to walk along with them to different homes while checking on the kitchen safety. This was mainly intended to find out weather the participants were cooking on their new improved stoves or not and also how the food was handled on a daily basis. During the home visits, Kibo staff found most members cooking on their new improved stoves in their well cleaned kitchens. About four participants were found cooking in unswept kitchens with utensils scattered all over the place. One of the ladies named Nakirya explained to Kibo staff saying she had just come back from the garden and was going to clean up her kitchen. The community members were also encouraged to continue maintaining all their facilities as much as possible as well as
