Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B, to continue with the lesson of poultry lessons(hatching and laying stations). Diana got when the community had not yet arrived, she moved around to mobilize them and they came, but all looked too tired and she told them to first dance a bit in order to lighten their bodies and also to put them in the mood of the lessons. Indeed Diana’s idea worked, every one was ready for the lesson as they sat down happy and really paid atttention to whatever was being taught to them by Diana. Khamadi was also happy as he moved distributing sweets to the best dancers. Diana asked the community what they remember from the previous lesson. Yudaya said that she learnt how important the chicken is to the community, Khamadi said the chicken is good for the bones and it is also good to be looked at in the compound, Zironda said that the chicken improves their income, that is to say when they sell the chickens, they can get money to pay for their children’s school fees. Diana thanked the community members for their good answers. She later continued with the lesson of the day. She told them as they love comfortable beds, the hens too love comfortable laying stations in order for them to hatch good chicks. It also helps to protect the layed eggs from cracking or breaking. Diana also added on that the beddings of the chicken should be cleaned or put under the sun in order for the beddings to dry. Sarah, asked Diana why the beddings are put outside?, Diana responded that they are put outside so that the hen doesn’t get mites which can stop it from brooding. If the hen broods in the box of mites, it can easily die. The community continued asking questions, as Diana answered them. The discussion of the hatching and the laying stations continued and it really became interesting. Diana ended there because of time and she needed to let the community members go back to prepare for their families a meal. She told them she will continue with the lesson in the next visit. The chairman Peter thanked Diana for the good lesson that is going to reduce poverty in their community. He encouraged the community members to bring their friends/ neighbors for the lessons.
