Notes
Ida went to Ndalike to teach about building chicken coops. Last time the lesson was theoretically taught but this time was practical. She first asked the home work given if the requirements were brought. Mugote said that women did a great job of looking for banana fibers, strings to help in binding the small poles. The chairperson said that all men worked together and brought small poles, others got them from the bush whereas others got from their gardens. The chairperson, Ida and other members moved in three homes where they found some coops that had already been built. The three types of coops were observed and one was discouraged. It can’t protect chics from wild birds and animals . Members loved the one with a wire mesh and small timber though it requires some money to buy the materials. They are willing to buy because the stronger the coop the longer it will last. Namukose liked the wire mesh coop because it can be lifted up and placed where you want it to be. So the materials that were brought will be used to build a coop at a different side of village where one of the four people elected stays. As members were proceeding to the chairperson’s home to keep the materials, it started raining and everyone ran to their homes and that was the end of the day.
