caring for trees
Notes
In Buluvu village, both Alex B and Alex W continued with following up on the remaining homes in the upper section inspecting trees that were recently planted by the village residents. On a very good note, almost all trees are still surviving and looking very healthy because of the ongoing rains. It’s raining a lot in Buluvu village and indeed the trees are doing very well. However some people were reminded how best they should care for these young trees including weeding around them, putting strong cages to prevent animals from eating them and pruning the grafted mangoes. While visiting people in their homes and gardens, both Alex’s continued to encourage all people to maintain their hygiene and sanitation facility standards during this rainy season. Some facilities like pit latrines have collapsed and some were found replacing them while others were encouraged to replace them as soon as possible. This is as a result of much rain in the village. This was the last visit to conclude with all people moving home to home carrying out tree inspections on all people in their homes and continue to encourage all people to take good care of their trees to increase survival rate and as well to plant more trees on their own. The community leaders like Namukose and Jowelia have been very active encouraging all people to plant and care for the trees they have planted. It’s been observed that many trees have been planted by people during this current season out of Kibo’s efforts sensitizing people in Buluvu to plant more trees on their own. The MCD staff will go back to have a review of the previous lessons and introduce new lessons on constitution writing and community economic projects.
