By the end of the lesson, the community members know what Adolescence and Puberty stage is and their responsibility towards their children.
Notes
Bring a rainy season as usual the community members come to the meeting late. It was not different today as well by the time the community members started to come , the weather started turning and before we could do anything it started drizzling however after a few minutes the downpour was heavy and some people ran off while for those that remained we entered in Wilbers house. In the house it was too heavy even with hailstorms but we managed not waste that time but go ahead with the lesson. We however, reviewed the previous lesson which was on Abortion , it’s causes, dangers and solutions. For this part the women requested previously that we continue with this lesson which we did. The women told the men to be responsible for their actions and to teach their sons and themselves to respect the girls, women and not just use them for their flesh desires and require them to get rid of the child . They went ahead and asked the men/ boys if the child is given birth to, they should not run from their responsibility. We also looked at women and Abortion why the women Abort and most of it was the men not providing the necessary needs. Therefore Lorna encouraged the men to be responsible for their actions. The lesson for the day was Adolescence and Puberty stage where Eunice explained to the community members that, this was the stage where girls and boys start developing some changes in their bodies like breasts for girls and beards for boys. Lorna thanked her for her answer and mentioned that she is right as in terms for puberty and mentioned that Adolesence is that period where boys start to challenge their parents, the stage where there is separation / transition from childhood into adulthood. We see here children start to have their own opinions, start challenging the customs, norms , traditions , have many questions , tend to withdraw , want privacy , be treated as an adult among others. While puberty we looked at the different body changes like; girls, breasts develop, hips, bum, pubic hair , menstration starts. Boys; beard growth, increase in height, pubic hair, voice cracks among others. The ages vary from 9, 11 to age 18. After this we looked at the role of parents in this period where Lorna mentioned that parents need to be close to their children during this time. They need to encourage them if their body changes , not to be ashamed but love their bodies and that other changes happen faster in some people than others and so to love themselves as they are. Lorna went ahead and encouraged them to always be available for any questions , support their ideas but build on them, give their children privacy while advising them. Lorna encouraged the participants to keep engaging the young teenagers provide , pads, bras, shavers, deodorant, encourage them to bathe, keep clean, buy them pads, boxers among others. Lorna asked anyone to share how their Adolesence was like and Eunice shared that she remembers she was free after bathing and would literally dress in public but suddenly , she became shy and needed privacy and Lorna mentioned ye it’s a stage of self discovery. Overall it was a great lesson and because not many community members attended due to the rain , we will go through it again before the next lesson.

Program Success
Yes. About the topic on decision making , Muyodi one of the participants in the program got a challenge with his sister concerning his land and they failed to settle the disputes and the sister asked him to vacate her land and that she would demolish his house. Muyodi however did not even consult any of his community members and even when he did try with the clan elders despite the advice given he did not heed. The sister had suggested to give him a share of 5e land but he thought it was too small for him and rejected. The interesting part of this story is the community members realizing that the lessons they are taught through the life skills program are not a waste of time. Wakiso encouraged the community to put everything they learn into practice because had he (Muyodi) taken the lesson seriously, he would not be in this situation.
