Notes
Kibo staff Tape and Suzan went to the village to continue teaching the community how to build the fuel efficient stoves. When they reached there, they found one of committee group members Faridah who welcomed them and led to a home where the rest of the participants were gathered and busy preparing the materials for building the stoves. Two stoves were going to be constructed in two separate homes that day. The community members divided themselves in to two groups whereby each group was led by a Kibo staff. They went to separate homes and began participating together in the stove building stages mainly while Kibo staff members were guiding them. The participants collected dirt from the anthill while carrying and pouring it on the floor near the kitchen. The began measuring the dirt and grass by a ratio of 2:1, mixed it and sprinkled water all over it. The two groups stamped the dirt while singing until it was ready for building the stoves. The active members entered the kitchen and began building the stoves after Kibo staff took measurements on the floor which was still challenging to others. They built the stoves step by step as Kibo staff guided them through out because the participants couldn’t build certain steps perfectly especially in the areas where the stems were going to be fixed. Kibo also guided the community how to cut and level the banana stems and then continued with the stove building. After building two stoves, Kibo staff sat together with the community and addressed them on some issues which still needed improvements. They encouraged all the participants to see that they smeared all their buildings and to construct stronger firewood storages which can hold up enough firewood. The members were also requested to keep working together as a team and assist those who were vulnerable to improve on some of their structures. The community members were grateful for the lessons that day and promised to keep improving on their facilities.
