Notes
Diana and Ida went to Igerera B to continue with the lesson of chores and responsibilities according to age group. Diana and Ida got the Chairman already at the meeting place, but most members were not around. The chairman told Diana that most of the members had gone for a burial and some were still in the gardens. Diana and Ida told him to move with them around the village to mobilize the community members. Diana, Ida and the chairman tried their level best, but most of them did not come. The chairman requested Diana and Ida to teach the number that was present. The chairman Charles opened with a word of prayer. He thanked all the members that had attended. He told them that they should always endeavor to attend the community empowerment lessons. He welcomed Diana to take them through the lesson of the day. Diana thanked everyone for attending the lesson and encouraged them not to give up on their gardens, but to spare some time for community empowerment lessons. Diana asked them what they remember from the previous lesson. Charles said that he remembers giving the children work, trains them to be responsible people in future. It also strengthens the children’s hands making them firm in handling things. James also added on that chores makes them(parents) rest while the children are helping them out. He added on that it feels good to see their children help them with house chores. Diana thanked the members for their good participation. She introduced the lesson of the day which was chores and responsibilities according to age group. Diana asked at what age do they start giving children chores. Harriet said that she starts at the age of two years. She teaches the child how to brush her teeth, how to greet people and sweep the compound. James Kimaka added on that for him at the age of three he starts giving his child a small hoe to dig. Sarah said that at the age of six, she teaches her child how to cook and wash some of her small clothes. Diana was impressed by the way the members responded to the question. And told them that they were on track and should keep up the good spirit. Diana invited Ida to continue with the discussion. Ida thanked the community members for loving community empowerment lessons, as she was still talking Ronald said that for him, he takes his children to work in the gardens to earn some money for him. Ida responded to him saying that it is wrong, and it is called child labor. That kind of life can make children lose interest in school and helping at home. They will only be minding of getting money, and if they fail to get, they resort to bad habits like stealing, drug abuse, drinking alcohol making them a nuisance in the society. The discussion went on well as the community members actively participated. Ida and Diana encouraged everyone to train up their children the way they should grow, and when they grow up, they will not depart from it. Diana and Ida ended there and told the community members they will continue with the lesson in the next visit. The chairman Kamya thanked Community Empowerment for the good lessons they offer to them. He encouraged his members to be vigilant in attending the lessons so that they live a transformed life.
