Notes
Diana went to Nawandyo B to continue with the lesson of poultry(feeding). She got when most of the members had not yet arrived. Harriet one of the members said that, most of the members were weeding their crops, but be patient they will come responded Harriet. Meanwhile as Diana waited for the members, she had a one on one talk with David who lost a child by the names of John. Diana told him not to be idle, because his wife and his first child need him so much. He should not be withdrawn wallowing in pain, people care about him. His parents also care about him. Diana told him that, he should make himself busy for example garden work than just sitting at home crying all the time. David appreciated Diana’s advice. By the time Diana was done with David, the community members came and were ready for the lesson. Diana went straight to the lesson of the day which was feeding in poultry. Diana asked them what they feed their chicken on, Khamadi said that he gives his chicken leftovers of food. Diana told him it is good but to benefit from his chicken he needs to classify the types of feeding. Diana told them the types of feeds which are; Chick and Duck mash, Growers mash( mpanga), Layers mash(Nsene). Diana gave them a manual to follow so that they can know how important the types of feeds are to the chicks and the chicken. That is Cotton seed cake, silver fish(Obufulu), shells(Amasonko), pre-mix(General purpose), salt. Diana told them that after giving the chickens food in measured amounts, they should give them lots of water for easy digestion of food. Diana invited questions, Khamadi asked the importance of Amasonko(shells), Diana responded that shells gives the calcium, cotton seed cake gives carbohydrates, mukene gives proteins. The discussion went on well and Diana ended there because of time. She told them that she will continue with the lesson of feeding in next visit. Khamadi the secretary thanked Diana and Kibo for giving them the knowledge that will benefit and enrich their community. He encouraged the community members to always be vigilant in attending the lessons.
