Maria visited Bukudumira village lower section to teach about sexually transmitted disease and HIV/ AIDS. The signs and symptoms, mode of spread, prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV /AIDS were discussed. The meeting started by identifying the different sexually transmitted diseases and Aidah mentioned several diseases; gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV/ AIDS. Maria together with the community members discussed the mode of spread of each disease; Hannipha said gonorrhea is got from dirty bathrooms, putting on dirty pants. Kagoya said through sexual inter course. After an interactive discussion, the health educator clarified about the mode of spread on every mentioned diseases; All these diseases are transmitted through practicing unprotected sex with an infected person. Signs and symptoms of gonorrhea, syphilis were discussed; pain during sex, bloody urine, pus in the urine, lower abdominal pain etc. Maria advised community members to go to hospital in case of any sign for treatment, practice safe sex by using condoms. Furthermore HIV/ AIDS was discussed in detail mentioning the different ways through which one can contract the infection and Maria said sharing needles, razor blade,sharp instrument with an infected person, having unprotected sex with an infected person. Maria encouraged everyone to always go and test for HIV/ AIDS, and if tested positive, take courage, take your long life medication, mothers who test positive while pregnant to start on the ( PMTCT) preventing mother to child transmission, it is available in all health facilities and free of charge. Maria informed community members that you can be HIV POSITIVE and give birth to a negative child once you follow and obey the advises from the health workers, take your medication.
