Notes
Diana and Kyle went to Naisamula to teach Financial management and collaborative decision making. Before Diana taught the community members, she first took Kyle around the village since it was his first time in the community of Naisamula. Diana with some community members toured some of the near by homes to check the Kibo programs in Naisamula. Cloves one of the committee members took Diana and Kyle around the village. As Diana and Kyle moved, they noticed that the kitchen programs were doing well, they were being used by the community members. The toilets and hand washing facilities were also being utilized. The Mvule trees were growing up well even the goats were healthy. This was very appealing as Diana and Kyle noticed the cleanliness of the village, this was courtesy of Kibo program. Diana and Kyle later came back and gathered at the meeting place. Cloves requested Dennis to say a word of prayer. Cloves thanked everyone for coming and welcomed Kyle and Diana to Naisamula. Kyle started by thanking the Naisamula community for the warm welcome they showed to him with Diana. He thanked them for the good work done in the community, and to continue loving Kibo and maintaining a clean and happy community. Diana also started by thanking the community for the warm welcome and for loving Kibo programs. She started by taking them through the recap of the previous lesson that was taught by Ida. Sarah said she remembers the the sieves that represent communication, she said, everything that is said has to go through a sieve. Meaning, select the words you say to your friends. Diana started by introducing the topic of the day which was financial management. Diana asked them how they manage their finances. Harriet said that she hides away her money from the husband, because she is the one who pays school fees for her children, the women shouted saying, it is true the men get money and the ‘thank you’, they give to them is to marry second wives, and eat with them in trading centres. Harriet added on that they work so hard in the rice shambas, but the men do not count that when they get money. They live them with a lot of responsibilities, like school fees, when the children fall sick, it is the women to take care of the hospital bills. Thomas said that it is a lie, they also try to take care of their families. He went on to say that the women too, if they get money, they say that it is the women’s money. It is from here that the men came up to thank Thomas for defending them. Diana thanked everyone for their contribution saying that, managing finances does not depend on one party, but it is for both parties. She added on that the husband and wife should sit together and decide on how the money should be spent. Diana also told them that they should create a family budget planner and clear all their debts. She told them that they should track their spending to see if they are on the right track. Diana went on to elaborate on her teaching. The discussion went on well as it really became too interesting. Diana requested to end there because of time, but the community members still wanted the lesson to continue. Diana told them that the lesson will start from where they ended from. She thanked them for participating in the lesson and encouraged them to bring more members. Cloves thanked Diana for the good lesson she taught them, he said that as the community, they will try to work together with their wives to manage their finances. He thanked the members for coming and requested them to tell their friends and neighbors not to miss such lessons.
