Notes
David ,Steven along with the two interns Victoria and Lindsey were in kigalama A . Their intentions of going there was to enact the borehole bylaws together with the community members so that they would be able to take good care of their borehole. They found when about sixty five members were waiting for them, they started the meeting by an opening prayer which was lead by nabirye. After the prayer the next item was the water and sanitation committee members introducing themselves with their responsibilities followed by the Kibo staff . The Kibo staff requested the interns Lindsey and Victoria to introduce themselves before the area residents. After all that the Kibo staff after having introduced themselves , they started by asking the residents which laws they think would be the best to follow when using their borehole. They started by putting in place the laws for example; 1.It is the village now to take the full ownership and care of their borehole. 2.The time of opening of the borehole should be always at 06:00am and closure time 0800pm to avoid bad pumping more so late in the night. 3.If one would be caught in the act of breaking the borehole padlock he or she would pay a fine of 20000shillings and also replacing anew one. 4.Once one breaks the borehole fence, He/She will replace it. The third low was started that the 5.Defaulters of the borehole fee should not draw water unless they pay. 6.Every family was to pay 4000 a year. 7.Animals should not use the same borehole water instead the owners should draw water from the borehole in a jerrycan and give the animals about 30 meters away-from the well. 8.The sixth low stated that the committee members should have meetings every after two month to assess how they will be moving on. 9.The seventh law stated that the caretaker should be protected incase of abuse with a fine of 5000 shillings. 10.Members should only get water if their jerrycans are clean. 11.Those with many jerrycans should allow those with one or two jerrycans to draw water first. They also said that men going for prayers on Friday,s and Sunday,s with one jerrycan should be given water first. Also once one fights on the borehole he should be handed to the Lc 1 for further action. 12.Another law was that no speaking bad wards and roumers with in the borehole compound once got will be reported to the Lc for further management. 13.once found washing ones feet or defeacating at the borehole will lead to a fine of not drawing water for 4 days. The cleaning of the borehole should be always for everyone who draws water from the borehole. The dirty jerrycans should be reported to the lc1. In addition to the above the Kibo staff encouraged the members to always respect the above guidelines for the good care and sustainability of their borehole. Also they encouraged the three communities that is the two schools and the area residents to continue working together since divided they will fall and united they will stand. In general the hygiene and sanitation of the entire village was good to the required hygiene standards and the borehole had 350,000/- shillings as their borehole account balance for the future sustainability of their borehole but they were still collecting more so, from the borehole fee defaulters .
