Notes
Harriet,Jeska, Suzan,Tape, Ida and the Executive Director Larry Norman went to Kamudoke village to give Soap to each participant and two community saucepans to the entire group. The event was joined by the community Development Officer for Ivukula Subcounty Enock, the subcounty and Parish Counsellors, the Mayor and the local council leaders to witness Kibo’s activities in the village as well as to encourage the community to continue working together as a group. The event begun with an open prayer, anthems and then walking around the village to see the sanitation and hygiene standards as well as the healthy and safe kitchens facilities that Kibo thought and guided the community to put in place. They walked around 30 homes and all the homes sampled were well smeared with words praising Kibo staff for the success, had stoves that were being used to cook food on daily basis and this was evidenced by the absence of the traditional three stones open flames , food cooking by itself ,every home had firewood storage stands well stocked with firewood. Also the homes had all the sanitation and hygiene facilities and being used. As Kibo staff together with the Government officials walked around the homes, the community sang songs of victory sighting how far Kibo brought them , the love and patience that Kibo showed them which helped them to succeed. They later settled for a meeting. The healthy and safe kitchens program Ms Rebecca thanked Kibo for the programs so far implemented in their village that is WASH and HSK program which has taught them to work together to solve their own problems especially resulting from poor cooking conditions. She added that with the help of Kibo staff they were able to build 103 stoves in the community which are being used on daily basis. She also thanked 8 active men who volunteered to work with them during the program. The community acted skits testifying how far Kibo brought them. A case in point was Aisha who shared that Kibo helped her to build all the home facilities including the stoves, helped her to improve her hygiene standard which attracted her husband to come back home who had flee from the village. Sarah also said that the healthy and Safe kitchens program helped to improve her marriage relationship whereby her husband is able to sit with her in the kitchen while cooking food thus able to discuss marriage related issues unlike before when she was cooking in a Smokey environment. Kibo staff Harriet then thanked the community for participating in the program , she requested them to maintain the program facilities and to start thinking on how to scale out to the neighboring communities. She added that because of the hard work teamwork Kibo has brought for them to Community saucepans that they can use as a group and a bar of soap which every member will take back home as a sign of appreciation. The executive director Larry Norman thanked the community for working hand in hand with Kibo during the process. He encouraged the community to continue working to get her to ensure that they sustain what Kibo has taught. The community development officer Mr. Enock thanked Kibo for the love extended to their village . He added that Kibo has helped to implement what the government has failed to implement in this village due to limited resources. He committed himself to continue working with Kibo. He also encouraged the community to continue working together, think of other programs that they can do as a group and the government will support them since they are already organized.
