Notes
Enock met all the leaders who where selected on the committee concerning sanitation and hygiene as well as the local leaders and VHTs. The reason was to first check on the maintenance, progress of latrine construction in their homes since they have to be good examples to the community. These are the people who usually walk with us to also encourage their fellow residents to construct good facilities. Most of the leaders have completed all their facilities in their homes, they saw new latrines, shower areas, dish racks, kitchen areas, rubbish pits except one had a hand washing facility out of the 7 homes of the leaders. After those homes, they also continued walking around the other homes of this village and homes which have been super slow to motivate them, assess and check on the improvements as they continue teaching them about the importance of sanitation and hygiene. There is a family of a gentleman called Mutoto who for a longtime used to give us excuses that he will dig his latrine but had failed to comply to his word. So during the home to home visits, he called ,enock and told him to come and check on how deep he is constructing his new pit latrine, he is about 10ft and his plan is 15ft deep. His family for about 10years they didn’t have anything like a pit latrine. The wife was so happy and appreciative for the great lessons concerning proper sanitation. She told Enock that when they finish constructing, she will team up with the kids to smear the facilities and also dig a rubbish pit to maintain the hygiene of the compound. Basically all the homes that have been super slow are doing something at the moment. Although most people have been in their gardens cultivating, they are sparing time in their homes to improve on the sanitation of the village. There are some old men that were met in the trading centre who gave testimonies about how the centre was looking before kibo came to this village to bring the program of sanitation. They said as they walked on the road, they used to find a lot of open defection which was not only done by the children but even the older people since they didn’t have latrines. At the moment they are seeing a great change since many homes have constructed latrines and using them.

Village Notes
There have been two stubborn people; a one Micheal Pataci who didn’t have latrines, for a period of 6 months During Enocks visit today, he called him to visit his home. He has now got the confidence in him self because he has built a new latrine of about 15ft deep and shower area. Enock was so impressed to see his new facilities. On top of improving the health standards of the community, Enock realized that we also improve the self esteem/ confidence of residents.
