Notes
Alex and two sanitation committee members, kansime and Namukasa visited the homes of the individuals whose facilities had collapsed down due to heavy rains. Zaid’s pit latrine had collapsed but on a good note he was reconstructing a new structure and about to finish. He will have to roof it as well to avoid the repeat of the same. Also they visited Mustafa’s home and he had completed to work on a pit latrine that had sunk in due to heavy rains. While moving around the village before the meeting, they continued to encourage the people who had not yet roofed their pit latrines to do so and encouraged them to exhibit a high level of hygiene and sanitation. While in the meeting, Alex Officially announced that Kibo will be giving Buluvu a new borehole after noticing that a group of people/ section in the community had no access to clean water and were getting water from the swamp, the community was crazy happy about it. Also he told the people that they had worked very hard to improve the sanitation and hygiene in their homes and this comes as a reward from Kibo to encourage the community more to work together and to keep up the good hygiene standards. The community didn’t know six months ago when Kibo started working in this community that at one time , Kibo would provide them a borehole and no one from the community applied for water so this borehole should just promote unity in the community since only God has decided to give water to them. Alex gave the highlights of what they expect to do during this time. One is that they have to come to the meetings and participate in those meetings. Two, they have to form a water committee that will lead the community on what to do and they must contribute towards the borehole construction. They will also be taught on all the community roles and responsibilities and have to show that they own the program and so they have to play their part as required. The community quickly reacted by suggesting to have a water user committee there and then and Alex then guided them on how to do it since it requires gender balance. The key positions have to be occupied by the ladies. The chairperson was chosen to be a lady called Tolofisa Malinzi, the treasurer called Masiyata Osule and one mobilizer called Nadoi Victoria. This made a total number of 7 people, 3 ladies and 3 men plus the LC1. Alex will go back to continue the teachings on why it’s important for the community to contribute money towards the borehole, teach about the community roles and responsibilities. The new water committee will work together with the sanitation in mobilization of the community for the meetings.
