- Enock teamed up with a group of students from Rochester collage, Oklahoma Christian university and Harding university who visited this village to also see how kibo operates and how it creates relationships with communities, how the programs of Water sanitation and hygiene operates to trigger people’s minds so that they acquire solutions of poor sanitation and hygiene. We visited a couple of homes to check on the construction progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, rubbish pits and also met some of the residents busy digging their latrine holes. There are 7 new latrine holes and they are all above 15ft deep. We also saw 5 newly constructed latrines although the three have no roofs and when we discussed with them, they said that grass is scarce and waiting for the harvesting period to get some rice grass to roof the latrine. We encouraged them to use brick, cement and sand if they can afford them because structures used by those materials are strong and sustainable. There are ladies who have also smeared their houses very neatly. The section we walked around has greatly improved and the sanitation levels are increasing. The issues of open defecation in this sections has dropped, we didn’t see any open defection during this visit. We encouraged the chairman and VHTs to also continue monitoring, evaluating and encouraging the fellow residents to work hard and improve the latrine construction and other facilities.

The old man is called Suleman Bavekuno. He used to have an old latrine which was almost full but ever since we discussed with him to construct a new pit latrine, he dug a 20ft deep latrine. He is constructing the walls and soon roofing it. He was so happy with his grand sons to have a new latrine in his home. He is a prominent moslem leader who also leads prayers in the mosque as sheik.
