The people are constructing good standard facilities from latrines, shower areas, dish racks, rubbish pits, kitchen areas, clean compounds than before where most of the homes practised open defection, had no place for rubbish disposal and also poor hygiene around the homes. The VHTs who are the first health activists in the community testified and said lately they are few cases of diseases which are caused due to poor sanitation as they said, there is reduction in diarrhoea cases which most families were facing. The community residents are busy in their gardens where some are harvesting, weeding and cultivating their gardens since their are still plenty of rains. Although they have to go to their gardens, Kibo mainly encourages them to first work hard to improve on the sanitation levels of their homes because after the garden work, they will still have to come back home to use those facilities. There were some stubborn homes who for some time they claimed they had no pick axes to dig latrines since all the pick axes were being used in other people’s homes. They had waited for some time and relaxed yet they would have started constructing other facilities which don’t need pick axes. Enock encouraged them to start off with other facilities as they wait. Despite of that, Enock had a conversation with the chairman and VHTs to spare two pick axes those families. During this visit, Enock took for them pick axes so that they will not always claim they are not working because they are looking for pick axes. They made an agreement with them and agreed in two weeks they will have completed their pits of 15ft. Enock and the VHTs then continued walking home to home to also continue evaluating, encouraging, sensitising the residents to construct good sustainable facilities. In the home of an old woman Eginasi Nakasango, they met young boys of about 10 and 14 years busy in the pit digging a pit for their grandma. This was so inspiring, they encouraged the boys to continue working so hard to improve on the sanitation of their grandma’s home. Generally, many people have embraced the program and are working hard to improve on the sanitation levels of the village.
