Notes
Alex.B and the community members discussed the advantages of trees that are planted and those that grow by themselves. They said the advantages of the trees that are just planted over those that grow by themselves are; they are taken care of, they are provided for enough space from one tree to the other to allow them grow, they are also known by numbers and are mostly in lines. They added that the harvest is also good since they are trimmed, sprayed for pests. They also looked at the disadvantages of the trees that grow by themselves like; they end up poor yield because they are not taken care of. Alex then asked the members if they had planted any trees on their own. They responded that they have planted coffee, oranges and musisi trees. They added that the trees were not spaced neither planted in line. They added that some of them are doing well although others are not doing very well. The members also added that it is very difficult to get seedlings of different species to plant as they dont have a nursery bed within their locality. Alex then told them about the mvule tree and the care needed when planting them.He went ahead and told them that the tree grows very big, tall and need protection from being eaten by animals, when still young. They should not be planted near the houses, roads or close to the boundaries with the neighbours. He also told them that the spacing depends on the crops to be grown in between. He added that the mvule trees are good wind breakers since they dont break easily or blown by the wind.
