Notes
Alex first checked on the borehole fence and general borehole status to make sure if the community had constructed the fence as instructed by the Kibo staff. There is a standard that needs to be met for a new borehole fence looking at the big size of poles, proper distance of 2ft from the slab and the proper size of the soak pit which is 4ft *4ft*4ft. He found out that they had managed to complete planting new grass around the borehole and the grass had come up very well with the current heavy rains. Also they had constructed the fence using the bigger poles as required but they needed to do more to fully meet the standard. They will put more poles to fill up the gaps and also fill up the soak pit with the stones to soak up the water that runs off.
He then met with 6 water user committee members that managed to turn up and Alex asked them why some of the members were away. They told him that some one had passed away from the neighbouring village and many of the people in the community had to go for a funeral there including some of the water committee members. Alex had gone to Budumba for a training session with the water user committee going through their respective roles and responsibilities and proper handling of the borehole funds. He could not do much because some of the water committee members were missing. He only followed up on how much money was so far contributed and the borehole water user chairperson, Namulondo Azena told Alex 200,000/= had so far been got. He then told them to make sure they meet up the fee of 300,000sh required before the borehole can be commissioned. They promised Alex that in two weeks this whole amount of money will be got and everything missing at the borehole will be worked upon. Together they set up a date and asked Kibo to commission the borehole for the community to start using the borehole water on 9/July/2018. They agreed that Alex will go back to check on whether they have met all that is required and a discussion about how they hope to keep money for their borehole funds done and the training of the water user committee also done before the borehole commissioning on that date.
