Notes
The residents of Kagulu are working on digging new pit latrines and replacing the broken ones due to heavy rainfall, constructing of shower areas in homes which didn’t have them before or had very short structures on them, rubbish pits are also being dug, kitchen areas are under construction in homes which currently didn’t know the importance of having them. We used the lesson of ashaming some of the residents who have been practicing open defection for a long time so that everyone in the community knows them, this has helped in triggering people’s minds to work so hard to improve on the sanitation and hygiene levels. There are already some good standard facilities like latrines in the trading centre and out side the centre constructed with cement, sand, and brick as well as having concrete slabs for proper foundation. The program has been a little slow due to the rainy season since most people have been cultivating and others have been harvesting gnuts. Despite of the slow season, there are some three homes that are digging new pit latrines, we also saw some nice smeared kitchen areas, shower areas and clean compounds. Enock and the team of VHTs continued encouraging the residents to construct sustainable facilities instead of repeating the same work over and over, wasting time yet they would have been productive developing their homes, working on other things like garden work and more. The chairman LC1 and VHT Micheal gave testimonies of how there village has greatly changed, more people are having latrines, few cases of diarrhea unlike before when many kids used to stay home because of continuous sicknesses.
