Notes
David along with Steven ,the H p m kabugo and Nate Burton were in the village to open up the borehole to asses the borehole fault and finding out what is to be repaired or bought. The borehole was reported by a Kibo staff ,Alex Bamulumbye that it was down for closely to one year and there was a critical need of water. When the WASH crew and the H p m from the district reached the community they found when about Forty residents were waiting for them at the trading centre close to the borehole. David asked the members to go to the borehole because they needed them to help as they were removing the pipes. After that the h p m kabugo,David and Steven having opened and removed all the internal borehole parts found out what the problem was or faults. These were the parts which were noted; to have been causing the water contamination cylinder, pedestal, rods, plastic pipes, chain, ball bearings and the stoppers, centre bolt, rusted bolt and nuts, four bags of cement ,100 bricks, and aggregates for casting and laying the pedestal. In general all the internal borehole parts were faulty. After all that David and his crew had a borehole meeting to find out what was the way forward . One of the key points which were discussed about during the course of the meeting were as follows ,every home was meant to contribute 5000 shillings towards the borehole account because, they realised that the population of the village was amounting to about 100 homes. Secondly the next point was every home working and maintaining on their old sanitation facilities to the required standards. Another thing which was done was that the Kibo crew were able to guide the community as they were coming up with a temporary team which would spear head the sanitation improvement campaigns as well as collecting the borehole contributions from the entire village members. In that, they were able to come up with about ten members in order to speed up the work which was assigned to them because of the critical water issue. In addition to the above they were asked to set a deadline for the two assignments which were to collect the borehole contributions and encourage and followup with the sanitation improvements. They all agreed and said that two months will be enough for them to improve on the facilities in the different homes because, they know the critical stress of the water issues they are having in the entire Maliga upper community. On the side of hygiene and sanitation the WASH crews assessment was that most homes only needed maintenance on their old facilities.David and the crew left the village encouraging them to continue working together as well as promising them to guide them as they will be coming up with the borehole committee during the next village visit r
