Notes
Enock went to this community to check on the progress of sanitation and hygiene. He was focusing on hand washing facilities and those homes that have Latrine pits but they haven’t completed their latrine construction. We walked around this community with the chairman LC1 and VHTs to continue sensitising the residents on the core values of hand washing and teaching them how to construct good hand washing stations ( tippy tap). Some of the residents have already bought into the idea of constructing hand washing stations of good standard. There are good hand washing stations in some homes, they used strong poles and well nailed. As we continued walking around, we came across one of the best hand washing tippy tap constructed in one of the homes. It was functioning well. The chairman and VHTs also vowed to do the same as well as using this as an example to the rest of the community members. There are about 21 hand washing stations already constructed. After we also checked on the homes which had open pits and still practised open defection. The good news is two homes have bought cement and bricks to start constructing. This is because they dug very deep pits of about 30-40ft deep. The residents are progressing and embracing all the programs Kibo has introduced in this village.

3377 We are focusing on hand washing stations. We are so intentional and emphasising on the process of hand washing. This is to educate the residents to understand core values of washing hands after visiting the latrine and before eating any meal. We are encouraging them to use soap and ash to clean their hands well. Today as Enock was checking on the progress of hand washing station construction, he met this young boy Enjoying using the tippy tap washing his hands after visiting the latrine. This has brought big smiles to so many kids after washing their hands.
