- Harriet and Falon had planned to go to Buyange and teach the community the goals and objectives of the stoves program unfortunately the community called Harriet that morning and told her that they have political conflicts that the Namutumba Residents District Commissioner was going to meet them and settle their issue on that day. Harriet changed her plan and they decided to go to Nawandyo village for a surprise visit to see whether participants were using their stoves on daily basis and also identify the challenges they have encountered with them in case of any. When they reached in the village they were joined by the Chairperson of the stove program who is now the newly elected Chairman LC1 for the entire village. They walked home to home while checking on the stoves. They found out that majority of the members were using their stoves on daily basis and told her that the stoves have helped them to save firewood,Cook food fast, it’s safe and clean for them and their children since fire is contained inside, smoke is vented out and less ash is produced. They also found a man in one of the homes they visited( MUsangali Joseph) who told them that his wife has been a way for the last four days because she lost a brother and went for a funeral at her home. He said that he is not much worried about cooking food for his children because of the presence of the stove. He also commented that if his wife had no stove he would not have managed to cook food for the children for all those days because the three stones requires a lot of firewood and produces a lot of smoke which would be uncomfortable for him. Also in some few homes they found some people cooking on the three stones alongside the fuel efficient stove . Harriet threatened them to destroy the fuel efficient stoves .some had an excuse that the fuel efficient stove doesn’t roast maize but Harriet reminded them about the dangers of open flames and taught them how to roast maize on the fuel efficient stoves. They apologised for the mistake and immediately took out the three stones some destroyed/ broke the stoves to avoid the family being tempted to cook on them. It was a suprise visit but the community appreciated it and thanked Kibo for its approach of taking time to visit them and remind them as well as correct their mistakes.

This woman Kantono Jeska was found happily mingling posho( cooking food) for her family on the fuel efficient stove.
Zaituni Kabolesa is cooking food on her stove using only one log of firewood to cook two things at a go. She told Harriet that the stove has helped her to cook food first using less fire wood , it vents out smoke and well as safe for her and children because it doesn’t produce smoke which would affect their eyes also the source pans are stable on the stove therefore even when she not at home her children can safely cook food.
This kitchen Kibo staff found the kitchen locked she was not able to look at the stove but she looked at the vent that was black because of smoke meaning that the stove was being used on daily basis.
