Tom made a visit to kisiro village to check on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as to hold a village meeting for the new kisiro chairmen. When Tom arrived in the village, he met with the committee members and they made a short follow up around the trading center to check on the new facilities under construction before the meeting. As they moved around, they were able to see four new pits being dug on one side of the trading center. They encouraged and guided the residents on how to better construct on the pits as some of them were disputed wide. Tom encouraged them to use stronger poles and if possible to use cement and concrete on the latrine floor. After the follow up, they moved to go and meet with the chairmen who were gathered at the mosque in one of the residents houses. The reason why Tom was meeting the chairmen Is because during the recent elections, kisiro East and West were both divided up into four new villages each to make a total of 8 new villages each with its new elected chairman. Right now there is Kisiro West, Kisiro East, kisiro North, Kisiro central, Kamwokya, Isamba, kisiro A and Kisiro B. Tom wanted to share and discuss with them how the program of sanitation and hygiene will continue and be implemented in each of the new villages. During the meeting, they all introduced them selves before Tom spoke to them. During the discussion, Tom congratulated them on their victories but also welcomed them to the campaign to end Open Defecation and improve on sanitation and hygiene in there respective villages. Tom also encouraged them and said that, even though the current health committee will still be actively involved, Tom called upon the new leaders to also step up there involvement in the program. Tom also shared with them about the recently finished evaluation in which he said collective efforts are needed to get every body in the village work and improve as a whole. Tom also read to them the worst homes in the evaluation and therefore each chairman was able to know whether those challenging homes were in there section/village or no. After Tom’s speech, the chairmen thanked Kibo for the great work it’s done to improve the sanitation and hygiene standards in there village. They all testified that surely there is a great improvement in the sanitation levels. They all said they will help in the program. Tom encouraged them to share the discussions with the rest of there committee members and encouraged them to mobilize there villages for a general meeting in which all the new villages will be combined and Tom will share with them the results of the evaluation. After the meeting Tom left for Jinja.
