Nawandyo B is very anxious to start using their new borehole. There are a few small steps that have to be met but in general the village has-worked very hard to meet the required status of the village. The new borehole commissioning is expected very soon and the community wants to organize a small commissioning party

Alex and Falon went to Nawandyo B for a meeting with the community members discussing about their borehole roles and responsibilities and to guide the community as they come up with the borehole bylaws. First the land owner officially gave out a piece of land measuring 30ft by 60ft to the community where a borehole was drilled. This process was talked and the land agreed but it was delayed a bit because the village was getting ready to elect a new LC1. Therefore a land agreement was signed by the land owner and the new LC1 willingly and at no cost given that piece of land to the community. The community hasn’t started using this new borehole until all the steps are reached. Alex told the community to take this as a communal thing and to each be responsible towards their borehole. Every body needs to know that this borehole belongs to Nawandyo and all have to be responsible taking good care of the borehole. The community was told that this borehole was given by Kibo but all the responsibility has to come from the village people. Kibo group shall remain happy if everyone in the community is being responsible and managing the borehole as required. Also Alex emphasized that the sanitation standards have to be maintained with every household having all the facilities in place to ensure a safe water chain. Meaning water is got clean from a clean borehole using clean Jerrycans and ending up in clean homes. The village members were then guided by Alex to come up with the bylaws that everyone has to strictly follow to ensure that the borehole is working all the time. Some of the bylaws that were agreed on are; The borehole to be opened from 6 am to 7pm, all the water users to contribute 6000sh a year, No bringing animals to drink water from the borehole and many others. In total, the village came up with 12 bylaws that will be signed on by the LC1 and the sub county community development officer. Also some few changes were made on the committee and three new members were added on the committee. Alex will go back and conduct last training of the water user committee before the borehole commissioning.
