Notes
Harriet and Tape together with the CDO did not find any one at the meeting place. Kibo staff decided to walk around the homes and remind people about the meeting. They found most people in their homes cooking lunch for their families. They encouraged them to come and learn how they can improve on the way they cook by using less fire wood. Some people later turned up for the meeting. Kibo staff told them the materials required for building stoves which was termite dirt, water, two saucepans, a shovel,a basin, hoes, banana stems,a panga and grass. They later asked them whether those materials are easily found in their community. The group said other materials can be found in their community except grass. Kibo staff together with the community decided to walk around the bush to search for grass. Unfortunately the best type of grass could not be found but found an alternative of star grass which is plenty in their community. Kibo staff asked the group to collect enough grass and next time they come they will teach them how to cut the grass. The group showed much interests and asked Kibo staff to start building for them stoves the following day. Harriet told them they need to go through a series of preparations before they start building stoves. They also told them that Kibo’s goal is to teach them how to build stoves so that they can build on their own as well as sell their skill for money once they learn. She added that in the next meetings Kibo staff will guide them to form policies and choose leaders who will govern and coordinate the Healthy and Safe kitchen program. The CDO also reminded the community to always show up for meetings on time and always to participate in any development program if they are to positively change their lives. He was also very thankful for the people who turned up for meeting more especially men. Kibo staff told them that they need to mobilize and teach others what they have learnt in today’s meeting.
