Ws Notes
David and Steven were in maliga to continue following up on quite a good number of homes, assessing their sanitation progress . They also encouraged the owners of the different homes that were still lagging behind to work hard so that they would improve and meet the set sanitation standards . When David and Steven reached the village they found when one of the committee member mis Phidah was waiting for them at her home close by the main road . They picked her and moved in the lower section of the village through the trading centre . The first home they moved to was Wakatama Gilsom,s home who had constructed a deep pit latrine ,shower area but unfortunately he rushed and constructed a bad wall shelter on top of his toilet .The Kibo staff advised him to take his time and construct a good wall around his pit because they never wanted him to waste the energy he used to dig a 27 feet deep pit.He said he will be buying the good construction materials . The second home they moved to was for Bawaye Henry whom they meet while he was constructing his shower area . They appreciated him and advised him to improve on the rest of the other sanitation facilities in his home. From there they moved to walubi Richard who had a deadly old toilet without a good floor instead he had placed and fixed-two wood logs the rest of the floor surface there was nothing.Unfortunately when he saw the Kibo staff he ran away into the nearby bush . Therefore the Kibo staff told the neighbors of him to advise him and also phidah said that he will be be revisiting him twice every day. They continued moving home to home were they found Lulindi George who had the other facilities in place but he had no dish rack and his plates and source pans were laid on the ground. They advised the wife who was around to talk to his husband so that he would construct a good dish rack. They moved to Tumwine Ben whom they found that he was inside his pit digging it they thanked him and advised him to work hard by digging a deeper pit latrine . Out of the twenty homes they visited there was some progress therefore phidah and the chairman of the borehole requested the Kibo staff for a general village sanitation improvement meeting. According to the Kibo’s assessment they also agreed with phidah because the majority of the residents were making substandard facilities which required a sanitation improvement meeting aimed at emphasizing rightful standards of the different facilities. Phidah told the Kibo staff that they had contributed 203000 shillings towards their borehole account, and David encouraged them to contribute more especially those that had not paid their contributions. In general the hygiene and sanitation status of the entire village is still low therefore there is more need for all the members to work hard and improve on sanitation standards.
