Notes
Tom made his first visit to igerera village after the triggering session. When he arrived in the village, he went to the chairman’s place who he found ready waiting for him with the rest of the committee members. They first had a discussion about how the sanitation and hygiene program is going in which the chairman said the residents were happy and appreciated the program going to there village. They were also thankful for the lessons. After a short meeting, the chairman as the committee members requested Tom that they move in the upper section of the village to see what the residents were doing especially in digging the pits for the latrines. In the first home they visited, they found when the resident had dug 6ft so far of his intended 15ft. He said he was just waiting for a friend to help pulling out the dirty and promised that in a week he would be done. In another home of the defense of the village, Tom found when the defense had started on the pit and was about 12ft. He said as a village leader, he wanted to lead by example therefore, he wanted to be among the first people to finish there latrines. They also visited another home where they found when a resident had just finished a first phase of digging the pit. He was very thankful to kibo for the lessons as well as the gift and support of the pick axes. His wife was also extremely happy that for the first time she will have a latrine. She thanked Tom and kibo for going to her village. The chairman and the committee members during the follow up were encouraging the residents with the pick axes to dig first so that other residents could have also the opportunity to dig there pits as well. They were also encouraging the residents how to dig a better pit as how to construct a simple but good latrine structure.
