- Notes
- Enock and Martin checked on latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, clean compounds, smeared facilities, focusing on hand washing facilities, encouraging residents to dig rubbish pits and making use of it. Most of the residents are working so hard to improve on the sanitation and hygiene levels this is because they have learnt the importance and benefits of proper sanitation. The Water sanitation and hygiene team is now focusing more on homes which didn’t have proper latrines, which don’t have latrines, which are still digging new latrine holes to encourage those families to construct good standard facilities to avoid repeating the same things over and again. They walking around visiting all the homes to emphasizing the residents to construct sustainable facilities. They saw some new latrines already completed but two had no roofs, the families in charge were taught the benefits of roofing the latrine structures. This will help there structures to last longer and not easily broken by rainfall. There are also three new shower areas, 6 newly constructed dish racks with good size poles. The people leaving in the trading center lock their latrines with padlocks forcing their neighbors who don’t have to also construct their own hence good management and hygiene around their latrines and the whole surrounding.
There is an old man who was for long without a proper latrine, We found him busy digging the latrine hole. We encouraged him to continue digging and taught him how to construct a good foundation for the latrine before putting the structure around.
The VHTs and LC1s were challenged to take the lead and not only wait for us to walk around there village but to mobilize, monitor and empower their fellow residents about the values of good sanitation.
Martin and Enock reminded the residents the problems which may result due to poor sanitation case in point the diseases which may even lead to loss of their beloved ones. So they should take all the lessons seriously to increase the sanitation levels of the whole community to reduce medical expenses.
