Notes
Enock and Martin visited this community to continue sensitizing, encouraging, guiding, monitoring, assessing and evaluating the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, kitchen areas, rubbish pits and other facilities. As soon as they arrived in this community, they met with the VHTs and Chairperson to first have a discussion about the progress of sanitation and hygiene in their community as well as to know which homes that have not constructed latrines and plan to visit in those homes, find out what they have done ever since the triggering session. After the small meeting with the local leaders, they walked around the village to visit home to home and check on the new facilities constructed, emphasize the construction of good standard facilities and standardization to avoid continuous expenses that result due poor construction of facilities hence repeating the same work over. If the community members constructs good standard facilities, they can be more productive, save time and resources to develop their homes even more. During the visit we saw 11 newly constructed latrines, 6 new rubbish pits, 17 new dish racks with strong poles, saw newly constructed shower areas with cement on top to add more strength to them. They continued encouraging the rest of the village residents to buy cement to use for the top of showers. This is because most people loose their showers due to heavy rainfall which breaks down most showers. The community is embracing the program working towards improving its sanitation and hygiene. The homes which have already completed latrine construction, were guided how to maintain the hygiene in side by using ash to chase flies which bring germs to our food hence causing diseases such as dysentery, cholera, typhoid, diarrhea among other diseases. In addition they reminded the community residents on the dangers of open defecation. In this village there have been a great impact and increase of latrine coverage and other facilities in less than two months.
