Harriet Jessica and Suzan were in the village for the second visit with the intention of introducing the Health and Safe kitchen program to the community members. Kibo staff arrived there on time and found most of the members in their gardens digging since it had rained the previous night. A few of the members that were found gathered at the meeting place welcomed Kibo staff and immediately rushed to the gardens reminding their others to come for the meeting which was to start. Slowly the community members came for the meeting which was opened and led by the Chairperson lady representing the Mvule program in Bukudhumira village. Both Kibo staff and the community members went ahead and introduced themselves one by one which was very important. Harriet welcomed the members to meeting and let them know what each of the Kibo staff was going to talk about. She also informed the members about the requirements each home must have before owning an energy saving stove. Suzan introduced the program to the members whereby she also asked the members wether they had ever seen or used the improved energy saving stove. She also asked the members the challenges they faced while they were using the open flames stoves, which was important as it helped them understand the importance of the energy saving stoves. Harriet asked both men and women to list down the number of activities done at home in a home and by who. This was very interesting for the men having very few activities done at home but claiming that they are still heads and the women are expected to do all the home activities because they are married to work for the families other than complaining that they do a lot. Harriet reconciled the two parties and told them they are partners to one another like two hands that need each other to be clean .she also also encouraged the men help women so that the women can have also some time to rest which is important for their health. The men also said that because their wives do many activities at home and spend long hours in the kitchen cooking while inhaling smoke it is reason why they are the majority suffering from many diseases like chest problems,eye problem and even when any one in the family is sick the women are the majority to take care of them. The men promised to start helping their wives at home and also encouraged women to always appreciate when ever they are helped. The women were very happy and thanked their husband who committed to help them. Harriet told them that since they have committed them selves to work as team , Kibo is willing to teach them how to build fuel efficient stoves which will eliminate smoke from the kitchen, help them to spend less hours in the kitchen cooking, less hours looking for firewood as well as eliminate cases of fire accidents. The chairperson LC1 added that the stoves will also attract men to help their wives cook food or cook together while discussing marriage matters because they will be clean with less smoke. Harriet concluded thanking and encouraging all members of the community to keep coming for the lessons in the next meeting for this would give them an opportunity to acquire skills of building energy saving stoves, which would also be one of their future income generating activities. The chairperson later thanked Kibo staff for their efforts to bring the program to their community and requested them to continue going back and teach them. The meeting came to an end with a closing prayer from a community member.
