Village Notes
Nawaibete has suffered post electoral violence and that’s the reason why Life Skills Education and Counseling had paused their lessons in this village. However even though there are still hurt feelings, the community has moved on.

Notes
Introduction Lorna went to Nawaibete village to resume the lessons under Life Skills Education and Counseling Program after a long break from the Local Council elections. Overview Lorna reached the village and was greeted by a few community members who quickly brought the chairs to the meeting venue. Godi the mobilizer joined them a few minutes later. Lorna then decided to move to the borehole together with Godi to check on its status. While at the borehole Lorna asked Godi about the situation in the village. Godi said that it is better but before it was so terrible that there were people arrested and others hurt in the process. Lorna noticed that the fence is new and asked whether the other one was too old. She was told that during the elections when the members got angry, they took out all the borehole poles and started using them against each other. He said it was terrible. Lorna told him that was very unfortunate but thanked them for rebuilding the fence. They then walked back to the meeting place. At the meeting place some community members had gathered including the vice chair person. The vice chairperson then opened with a word of prayer and the meeting begun. Lorna greeted the members and welcomed them from the Electoral process. She then started by reviewing all the lessons together with the members. They looked at HIV transmission, they looked at the different ways HIV is not transmitted, they looked at the fluids through which HIV is transmitted. Lorna asked whether saliva and sweat were among the fluids, the majority of members said no but 2 men said yes. Lorna gave chance to the members to help these men understand whether these fluids were among them, They said no unless its Tb or Hepatitis but also one member mentioned if they were kissing and wounds were involved, then it was possible to catch HIV. They also looked at preventative measures like condom use, avoiding sharp instruments , giving birth in a hospital among others. They also looked at the different STDs and their symptoms. They also talked about circumcision as one of the means to prevent STDs and also reduce the risk of catching HIV. This brought about a huge discussion as some took it as men who are circumcised are very promiscuous and are the ones dying of AIDS. The rest of the members argued this and said on the other hand it saves them from a lot of diseases. Lorna also added that it helps with personal hygiene. This brought them to the relationship between STDs and HIV/AIDS where Lorna added that the person with STDs was more at risk of contracting and transmitting HIV more than one without STDs. They also looked at women and HIV/AIDS. Lorna however did not teach the 2 last topics rights of PLWHIV and HIV and behavioural change. Lorna will teach these on the next visit. Conclusion The review was very participatory with members asking questions. Lorna thanked them for coming and encouraged them to share this information with others and to also come in large numbers on the next visit. When they finished the review time had gone and Lorna did not teach the last topics as was planned. She made another arrangement to be back to finish the topic as planned.
