Notes
Suzan Tape and Jessica were in the village with the purpose of building a demonstration stove and also select the committee leaders who will be responsible for the healthy and safe kitchen program . When they arrived to the village, they found some of the members gathered at the meeting place who happily welcomed them. The chairperson immediately opened the meeting with a prayer and later requested Kibo staff to carry on with their lessons. Suzan took through the agenda to ensure that every person understands every activity that would take place step by step that day. Kibo staff together with the community agreed to first build one demonstration stove and later select their committee leaders. They headed to one of the member’s home and found some of the materials for building in place. She led them to a nearby bush where they found a termite hill and slowly dug out the dirt which they heaped in the compound. Tape and Suzan measured and mixed the soil with the grass at the ratio of two to one as the members watched and later invited them to join in stamping the dirt until it was ready for building. Kibo staff then proceeded to the kitchen and started building the energy saving stove as the community watched. Some of the members kept on asking questions throughout the stove building process which was very important in a way that it will help them master the skills that would assist them when they built their own stoves. When the stove was finally built, all the members with Kibo staff went back to the meeting place and selected committee leaders who would be responsible for coordinating the healthy and safe kitchen program in their community. This was very important because it helped sustain themselves even when Kibo staff stopped going to the village for more lessons. A few policies were also formed which will help to guide them as they carried out different activities for the healthy and safe kitchen program. Kibo staff together with the community concluded by agreeing on the next date and time that the next meeting would take place. Jessica thanked all members for their participation and then closed the meeting with a prayer.
