Notes
Suzan,Tape and Jessica were in the village with the purpose of building more demonstration stoves and also to teach the community how to remove the banana stems from the stove built in the previous meeting.
On arriving the village, they found some members gathered at the meeting place ready for the healthy and safe kitchen lessons. Suzan explained to the community their intentions that day which was to build at least two energy saving stoves for demonstration and to remove the banana stems out of the previously built stove.
The members together with Kibo staff headed to a home where they had first built a demonstration stove and Tape showed them how to remove the banana stems out of it . This was one of the important steps that every member needed to know . The members were also told to always remove the stems from the stoves after one week of building, there it would have dried up a bit and also to begin using it for cooking after one month.
There after, two groups were formed among the community to participate in building two demonstration stoves whereby one group was headed by Tape and Suzan while the other group by Jessica. Dividing groups into two created space for everyone to participate in every step and also to avoid squeezing one another during the building process.
Both groups went separate ways to the selected members homes where they worked together with their leaders and built the energy saving stoves. Kibo staff kept on encouraging members to get involved in every step of building the energy saving stove and also to keep asking questions Incase they didn’t understand a particular step, this would help them master the skills faster.
Members were also encouraged to keep on smearing their kitchen walls and stoves as it would look neat and last longer. After the two demonstration stoves were built successfully, the community thanked Kibo staff for the healthy and safe kitchen program and promised to continue participating effectively in all the kitchen lessons.
Kibo staff thanked all members for their efforts and participation in building the stoves and encouraged them to keep on practicing for perfection. Together they agreed on the next date and time that the next meeting would take place, and the meeting was closed with a prayer from a committee member for the healthy and safe kitchen program.
