Notes
This was the first water meeting with the village leaders to introduce to them the next Plan Kibo has for Ituba village. Alex has to first meet with village leaders to introduce the water program to them and and encourage them to work together as their message to the rest of the village members has to be uniform to avoid community conflicts and divisions that may arise as the leaders fail to agree on where the borehole is to be placed. Alex broke the good news first to these leaders and they were very happy that Kibo is considering to give a new well to Ituba Namalowe. They first discussed about the 15 homes in the recent evaluation who have to do more in their homes to improve their sanitation standards and more emphasis on latrine construction as more efforts and encouragement is needed to have them meet all the standards. 92% of the homes have the required standard pit latrines but the whole focus is 100% of the village have pit latrines and use them as required. Together with the village leaders ,vhts , sanitation committee and Alex shall continue to follow up on these individuals to ensure they meet the standards and look like the rest of their colleagues in the village. The village leaders all agreed to follow on these people as a group to have them meet the standards as this will put the whole village at required sanitation standards that every body will be proud of and drastically lower or prevent the spread of diseases caused by poor sanitation and hygiene. The village leaders who came to the meeting couldn’t stop thanking Kibo staff, Enock, Martina and Tom that have worked tirelessly with this community for a long time moving home to home teaching and guiding the community to change their behavior. It’s remembered that this village was very badly off with majority of the people practicing open defecation (64% of the homes didn’t have pit latrines). They all agreed to have the next community meeting on Monday 19/11/2018 to discuss the steps involved before the borehole is drilled, select a water user committee to aid this process and encourage everyone to be part of the whole process by contributing money and efforts needed during this process. Alex also joined Steven , Hand Pump Mechanic and David in Maliga village as they were carrying out a borehole repair in this village. The whole process of the borehole repair installing new parts that were bought and blowing of the borehole to pump out dirty water using the new water pump that was recently bought at Kibo.
